He was suffering from Thalassemia, a serious blood disorder.
4-year-old Du Sihan was diagnosed with thalassemia, a serious, inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen that ultimately leads to bad blood circulation. This has also left Du Sihan with extreme, unbearable pain.
Because of that pain, Du Sihan would always be tired to do anything, and would just rest whenever the pain goes away for a while. But her parents were shocked when he asked to be buried because he could no longer bear the pain.
“Please bury me mommy, I cannot bare [sic] with this pain anymore,” he apparently told his mother, after a day of tolerating extreme pain.
Du Sihan’s mother wouldn’t take the boy’s wish seriously and would respond like: “Where do you want mom to bury you? Do you want to play hide and seek with me?”
“No, I want you to bury me in the ground,” Du Sihan shouted back at his mother. He was serious. He wanted to die instead of tolerating the pain one more day.
When his story went viral on social media, financial helped poured in, especially when netizens learned that the family was having a hard time paying for hospital bills. A total of $134,550 was received for his medical expenses.
The donation collected really helped the boy, where he was ready to undergo a bone marrow transplant surgery. Despite the surgery, he suffered from bacterial infections where he continued to have a high fever for 20 days and bile infections for the rest 40 days.
Du Sihan was in constant pain, prompting his family to allow another surgery that will hopefully improve his health. However, his health declined more, and at a very young age, he knew he was soon going to leave this world.
After having to tolerate and suffer such pain, he told his mother with a sad face.
“If I leave now, you would be able to focus on yourself,” said Du Sihan.
Those were his last words before closing his eyes slowly and sleeping soundly forever.
“It is for the best, my boy left this world with a lot of pain but now is relieved of all the pain,” said Du Sihan’s mother while sobbing.
It is devastating to see him go through physical and mental pain internally, every single day of his life until his last breath.
