Becoming a parent is a huge responsibility. Anyone who has ever taken the plunge will agree that it is the most difficult job you will ever have in your life. The notion of being a parent is an overwhelming one for anyone, however, the thought of being a teenager and raising a child is something only someone very brave can do.

For most people, your teenage years are a time of experiencing new and exciting things, which do not necessarily include becoming a parent. However, for a lot of people, including celebrities, becoming a young parent was simply part of their journey. Regardless of who you are or how much money you have, every parent faces challenges when it comes to their kids.

From politicians to famous athletes, a lot of celebrities became parents at a very young age. Some decided to reach for their dreams while others faded into darkness. Regardless of what kind of parent they became each of these celebrities knows what it is like to have a kid when they were still kids themselves.

15. Bristol Palin (18)

Bristol Palin is the daughter of politician Sarah Palin. A lot of you may recognize her from Dancing with the Stars in 2010 where she placed in third.

In 2008, Palin became a mother at the ripe age of eighteen. She and Levi Johnston welcomed Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnson into the world and into their hearts “I love my baby more than anything. He’s like a Gerber baby. He’s the cutest baby in the whole world” said Palin.

Since the birth of her son, Palin has been an advocate for sexual abstinence and earns a living publicly speaking about teen pregnancies and educating young people on the reality of being a teen mother. Palin also published her memoir and appeared in her own reality show.

LeBron James is known as one of the best basketball players of all time. James, who has always been a gifted athlete fell in love with Savannah Brinson in high school. In December 2011, he proposed to his sweetheart and the couple tied the knot in 2013 in San Diego California.

What many of his fans do not realize is that he was a father way before he became a husband. James has two sons and a daughter with Brinson and together they have been raising a family since they were teenagers.

James is a great man and example of what a father should be. He is a self-proclaimed “family man” and claims his true talents lie in being a father. Which makes him even more adored by us!

13. Niki Taylor (19)

Niki Taylor is a beautiful supermodel who always manages to light up any room she enters. Her undeniable beauty in combination with her cheeky charm are a few reasons why she has become so popular.

Taylor, who is a mother of three, had her first two kids when she was only 19 years old. The model was married at the time and trapped in a relationship that was falling apart. “I was young, and I thought I was in love. So when the babies came, it was not something I signed up for” said Taylor in a previous interview.

Although she loves her kids more than anything, she claims that being a mother at nineteen was difficult, especially when she got divorced at 21. Now, she is married to NASCAR driver Burney Lamar and together they are raising her two boys and their beautiful daughter Ciel.

12. Lamar Odom (18)

Lamar Odom has lived many lives in his years on earth. From being a superstar basketball player to marrying a Kardashian and almost dying of an overdose in a brothel, there is not much that needs to be said about him.

To add on to the list of his life, Odom was also a teen dad. At the age of nineteen, Odom had a child, a little girl named Destiny. Destiny, whose mother is Denise Morales was not the biggest fan of her dad’s marriage to Khloe Kardashian and went on record claiming “she knew they would not last.”

Odom has three children and although he has made some mistakes in his life, there is one thing people can’t deny and that is the love he has for his children.

11. Anna Nicole Smith (17)

Anna Nicole Smith will always be remembered as a blonde bombshell but before marrying a rich old man and posing nude, Smith was just an average teen mother.

Smith dropped out of school at fifteen and began working in a restaurant, which is where she met Billy Wayne Smith. The couple worked together and ended up falling in love and getting married. Anna Nicole Smith was seventeen years old at the time.

In 1986, Smith gave birth to her her son Daniel Wayne Smith, who later became her best friend. A year later, the couple split up and Anna Nicole worked whatever jobs she could find including Walmart and Red Lobster. It is not surprising that she was also a stripper for a little bit. “I couldn’t make ends meet. I tried Red Lobster. I tried Wal-Mart. I tried all these places and I couldn’t make it. I couldn’t. So, I tried this gentlemen’s club, and, you know, I worked there, and it was just awful in those places. It was terrible” stated Smith in an interview. It was not until she auditioned for Hugh Hefner that she and her son’s lives changed forever.

Sadly both she and her son passed away within a year of one another.

Solange Knowles is Beyonce’s sister, who is also a beautiful and talented recording artist. Solange and her sister are extremely close even though they have lived very different lives. Yes, they are both super talented singers, but while Beyonce was busy making her solo career take off and becoming the most famous person on the planet, her sister was occupied with changing diapers.

When Solange was only eighteen years old, she became a mother. In 2004, Knowles married football player Daniel Smith, she was only seventeen at the time. Together, Solange and Daniel welcomed a gorgeous baby boy into the world and although the couple split in 2007, they still have a very friendly relationship.

When asked about being a teen mother, Solange described the experience as an “unplanned blessing” and revolves her life around being the best mom possible.

9. Jamie Lynn Spears (16)

Jamie Lynn Spears is pretty much famous for being Britney Spears little sister. Jamie Lynn Spears did at a time star in a television show called Zoey 101 but never reached the same level of fame as her superstar big sis.

At the young age of sixteen, Spears put her career on hold when she got the news she was pregnant. The young mom has been open about saying she was too shy to ask her doctor about birth control seeing how she was the star of a children’s show.

Although she and Casey Aldridge who is Maddie Brian’s father tried to make their relationship work, they called it quits in 2010. However, in 2014, Spears tied the knot with Jamie Watson who is said to be a great stepfather to her child.

Spears has gone on record saying “I was a kid who did a kid show. Then I went away and raised my child, and the world has never met me as an adult” and we hope to one day get to know the adult her!

8. Roseanne Barr (17)

Roseanne Barr is the woman who stated the following “There’s a lot more to being a woman than being a mother, but there’s a hell of a lot more to being a mother than most people suspect.”

A woman who is best known for her role as a television mom is also a woman who was once a teen mom who gave her child up for adoption. Barr was only eighteen years old when she got pregnant. The year was 1971 and initially she wanted to keep her child. However, she soon realized that she was not in a financial position to do so and she felt the best thing for her baby was to find a family able to support her.

During her pregnancy, Barr lived at a Salvation Army for unwed mothers. It was not until seventeen years after she gave birth that this mother was reunited with her child, all thanks to tabloids!

7. Lil Wayne (16)

Lil Wayne is one of the best-known rappers of this generation. His cool sound and amazing lyrics have gained him a lot of popularity throughout the years. The rapper earned his spot in the industry when he became the youngest member to join Cash Money Records.

What a lot of people do not know is that Lil Wayne was also one of the youngest celebrities to have a child.

When Weezy was only sixteen years old, he got his girlfriend Antonia “Toya” Jackson pregnant, who was only fourteen at the time. Together, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world.

Although the couple did not stay together, Toya will always and forever be Weezy’s first real love and his first baby mama.

6. Linda Lovelace (19)

Linda Lovelace was a stunning Bronx native who was famous for starring in adult films. Known for her role in an adult movie, Lovelace was a notorious goddess and has gone on record saying “Everyone that watches Deep Throat is watching me being r*ped”, which is pretty intense.

What many do not know about this star is that when she was only nineteen years old, she got pregnant. After being pressured by her mother, the actress decided to give her child up for adoption.

This teen pregnancy was something that Lovelace rarely opened up about and it is something that brought a lot of sadness to her.

Sadly, she never got the chance to reunite with her son. Lovelace passed away in 2002.

5. Sofia Vergara (18)

Sofia Vergara is the highest paid actress on television right now. She is stunning, talented and full of personality, which is why everyone loves her so much.

The actress grew up in Barranquilla Colombia which is where her modelling career began. While walking on the beach in a bikini she was discovered by a photographer, which ended up being the start of it all for her.

When she was only eighteen years old, Vergara married her childhood love Joe Gonzalez and the pair brought a baby boy into the world.

Although the couple split only a year later, Sofia continued to pursue her dreams even though she was a single mom. She and her son have a special bond and together they have shared a lot of ups and downs.

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” and it is safe to say she has not nor will ever be forgotten.

Maya Angelou was one of those phenomenal women who thrived throughout her existence. Known for her pieces of work like I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, which was her first autobiography (and is a great read for anyone interested) is considered one of the best-written pieces of our generation.

Angelou was an inspiration to artists, writers and many others around the globe since she rose to fame. Her undeniable intelligence has earned her over 30 honorary doctoral degrees and throughout the span of her lifetime, she wrote seven autobiographies and countless books of poetry.

What many do not realize is that Angelou did not have an easy life, which could explain the power in her writing. When she was a child, she was sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend. Mr. Freeman. Freeman was found dead four years after he was released from jail.

3. Keisha Hughes (17)

Keisha Hughes is a superb actress who earned a lot of respect when she was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Whale Rider. At the time, she was the youngest person to have ever been nominated in the best actress category.

We assume Hughes has always liked to do things at a young age because at sixteen this actress earned the title of mother. Being a young mom is not something that is easy to do but Hughes made it all seem like it was a walk in the park!

She and Bradley Hull welcomed a beautiful girl into the world in 2007 and although the couple split three years later, they are very happy they brought their daughter into the world.

2. Patti Smith (19)

Patti Smith embodies the word ‘artist’. A singer, songwriter, poet, and visual artist, Smith has always been a force to be reckoned with.

Although Smith is now in her 70s, her life will never seem dull. Before she was famous, Smith was a pregnant teen. She was a nineteen-year-old high school drop out and believed the best thing for her child was to be adopted.

The singer opened up and stated, “Though I never questioned my decision to give my child up for adoption, I learned that to give life and walk away was not so easy.”

Her incredible memoir Just Kids discusses this hard period of her life and is a great read for anyone who is a fan of Smith.

Aretha Franklin is a living legend. The Memphis native has one of the most powerful and soulful voices ever and is also one of the most famous people of all time.

At the young age of twelve (yes, twelve years old) Franklin gave birth to her first child, a boy named Clarence. When she was fourteen she welcomes Edward, her second child into the world.

It is crazy to think that by the age of fourteen she had already brought two children into the world. What is even crazier is that Franklin has still never revealed who their father is.

Throughout all of this, she still managed to become a huge success in the music industry.
