Okay, let me get one thing perfectly clear. When I call these people “nobodies,” I don’t really mean they are nobodies. It is just a way to signify the disparity between a high-profile celebrity who glides onto a set with every luxury in the world, and the crew member who is just trying to keep working and make ends meet. You have to understand, when most of these celebrities are on a film set, they couldn’t be bothered to get to know the production crew. Sure, some will come on the set on the first day and try to meet the crew, instil some confidence in the production, or otherwise, make everyone feel at ease. Others really just want to focus on the work and prefer the crew to focus on theirs as well, be professional, and avoid gawking at them.
Celebrities are just people too. They could be smitten by a glance, or intrigued by a clever remark. Sometimes, just sometimes, a celebrity will walk on a film set, work with someone on that crew for that month or so and become totally attracted to them. In those cases, it is fair to say that a “nobody,” someone who isn’t famous, managed to bag a celeb. Here are 15 such cases that give us all hope!
15. Christian Bale And Sibi Blazic
Theirs is a truly beautiful love story. Christian Bale was friends with actress Winona Ryder, and the pair worked together in the 1994 film, Little Women. Then, in January 2000, Bale and Blazic ran off to Las Vegas and secretly got married! The couple now has two children together. The very private Bale would go on to work on the time-consuming Dark Knight trilogy, an endeavor that would strain any relationship. Blazic we very supportive of Bale assuming the legendary role and even took a job as a stunt driver in The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Her husband and the rest of the cast and crew all publicly thanked her for supporting Bale during the gruelling production schedule.

One day, in 1994, she checked the appointment book and saw the name “Patrick Dempsey.” She thought it was a prank, but who should walk in for their appointment, but Dr. McDreamy himself, Dempsey. Dempsey was already a young heartthrob from his roles in Heaven Help Us (1985), In The Mood (1987), and Sweet Home Alabama (2002). She was shocked but absolutely smitten! After about three years of haircuts and harmless flirting, the pair began dating. They married in July 1999, and now have three children together. Though the couple announced their divorce in 2015, they reconciled a year later.
12. Reese Witherspoon And Jim Toth
Now this one is a stretch, I know, but it was too good of a story not to include. Reese Witherspoon was newly single after her break-up with Jake Gyllenhaal in late 2009. So, she decided to have a night out. That night, a drunken man came up and started hitting on her, while slurring his speech and talking too loudly. Witherspoon tried to politely withdraw from the situation but the drunken Lothario will have none of it. Then, as if on cue, another man pulled the drunkard away, apologizing profusely for the intrusion and awkward situation. That man was Jim Toth, Hollywood agent. His clients included Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. Toth and Witherspoon hit it off and that chance encounter ultimately led to them getting married in March 2011. Okay, so he’s not a crew member, but he does go to film sets on behalf of his clients, so there’s that!
11. Lea Michele And Matthew Paetz
Lea Michele won worldwide acclaim for her performance as Rachel Berry on the American dramedy musical series Glee (2009-2015). One of her co-stars was the equally talented Cory Monteith. The pair dated and was inseparable until his untimely death in July 2013. For almost a year Michele was haunted by the tragic death of her boyfriend. The last thing on her mind was to enter into another relationship. Then, in April 2014, while shooting a music video for her song “On My Way,” the second single from her debut album Louder (2014), she met Matthew Paetz. Paetz was a model and hired to appear in the video. The two immediately hit it off and he became the support she needed to get over that difficult time in her life. Their connection deepened and Michele admitted that Monteith would’ve liked him and approved. However, after Glee was cancelled, Michele reportedly became increasingly more difficult to live with and, after two years together, Paetz finally had enough and left.
10. Christina Aguilera And Matt Rutler
In 2010, singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera had just gone through a divorce from her husband of six years, music producer Jordan Bratman. She signed on to co-star in the musical film Burlesque (2010), but she was still trying to get over her failed marriage. While on the set she met a production assistant named Matt Rutler. Rutler was no stranger to being around big stars as he had worked on the sets of numerous films, including Academy Award-winning The Social Network. Aguilera and Rutler connected and, according to her, he provided the support she needed to get through that trying time in her life. The duo began dating and four years later, on Valentine’s Day in 2014, he proposed. The pair has been engaged for three years now, but Aguilera is in no rush and they have yet to set a date.
9. Tom Felton And Jade Olivia
When he signed on to co-star in the incredibly huge Harry Potter franchise, British actor Tom Felton was one of the only child stars who actually had prior film experience. Felton would appear in all eight films as the conflicted villain Draco Malfoy. On the other side of the coin, we have Jade Olivia Gordon, known simply as Jade Olivia, stunt department coordinator and assistant. She had already worked on a few films when she signed on to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 2007. She would continue working on those last four Potter films. In early 2008, during production of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), she finally struck up a friendship with Felton and soon the two were dating. Felton even convinced his reluctant girlfriend to appear on-screen as his character’s wife, Astoria Malfoy, in the epilogue to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011). Unfortunately, the pair broke up in January of 2016.
8. Meghan Trainor And Cory Andersen
Meghan Trainor is an American Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter famous for her hit song “All About That Bass.” During the 2014 finals of the American dance competition series Dancing with the Stars, Trainor’s trailer was set alongside the trailer belonging to singer Nick Jonas. During the taping, Trainer ventured over to say hello to Jonas and met his personal assistant, Cory Andersen. According to Trainor, they exchanged casual greetings. Later, on the Jingle Ball tour with Jonas, Trainor was photographed sharing a kiss with Andersen. The tabloids ran with it and rumors began to fly that Trainor and Andersen were dating. Supposedly, they are not an item, but just “cool” with each other… Okay, whatever. The fact remains that Andersen got to plant a big one on her without security ripping him a new one! Even if they are not dating, that’s a lot better than most of us would get!
7. Margot Robbie And Tom Ackerley
Australian actress Margot Robbie, famous for her roles in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) and Suicide Squad (2016), was cast in the British war drama Suite Franҫaise (2014). The film starred Michelle Williams and Kristin Scott Thomas. When she showed up on the set in 2013, ready to work, she met third assistant director Tom Ackerley. The handsome young unit director immediately caught the eye of the beautiful rising actress. They starting spending time together and after three years of dating, they got married in December 2016, in a private ceremony in Australia. Robbie’s star might be on the rise, but that hasn’t stopped Ackerley from pursuing his career. He’s stayed busy on film sets, still working as a second unit director on such films as MI-5 (2015), Macbeth (2015), and The Brothers Grimsby (2016).
6. Jessica Alba And Cash Warren
When Jessica Alba signed on to co-star as Sue Storm in Fox’s Fantastic Four (2005), I’m sure she had no idea she would meet the man of her dreams. The film was directed by Tim Story, whose previous work included Barbershop (2002), starring Ice Cube. Story’s production assistant was the Yale-educated aspiring producer Cash Warren, who had worked previously with Story on Taxi (2004). On the film set, Alba and Warren had an instant attraction. As Alba told Cosmopolitan magazine, “It was kind of a love-at-first-sight thing, but I met him when I was dating someone else, so it started off as a friendship. I was actually attracted to his spirit and mind before it went to a physical place.” Later it became more serious and the two were married in a courthouse ceremony in Beverly Hills, California, in May 2008. Warren is now a successful documentary producer and the couple have two beautiful daughters and announced earlier this year that they are expecting a third.
5. Julia Roberts And Danny Moder
In 2000, Julia Roberts was cast to star in Gore Verbinski’s The Mexican (2001) alongside Brad Pitt. The first assistant cameraman on that film set was Danny Moder. Roberts had just ended her years-long relationship with actor Benjamin Bratt. The two hit it off instantly and became quick friends. Moder was still married to Vera Moder, a makeup artist, his wife of four years. He filed for divorce and after about a year, married Roberts on July 4th, 2002. They had an intimate ceremony on Roberts’ New Mexico ranch, with friend Bruce Willis being the only celebrity guest. Roberts claims she was a different person until she met Moder, and he helped her evolve into being a better person, a mother, and a wife. The happy couple now has three lovely children. Roberts is still one of the highest paid actresses in the world, but that hasn’t stopped Moder from also working. He’s currently cinematographer for the upcoming 2018 romantic comedy Ibiza.
4. Conan O’Brien And Liza Powel
In 2000, Conan O’Brien taped a segment for his NBC television series Late Night with Conan O’Brien. In the segment, Conan traveled to the offices of Foote, Cone, and Belding (FCB), a prominent American advertising agency. The premise for the segment was to take an over-the-top furniture store owner’s wild commercial ads and give them a professional makeover. Conan is introduced to a group of experienced FCB copywriters, one of whom was Liza Powel. The copywriters come up with a more-polished, professional, yet similarly wacky television commercial premise. After the segment was filmed, Conan, who’s appeared as himself on numerous television series and voiced The Riddler in 2016’s The LEGO Batman Movie, kept in contact with the copywriter. They soon began dating and after almost two years together, the couple married in 2002.
3. Julia Stiles And Preston J. Cook
It’s 2014, Julia Stiles, known for her roles in the Jason Bourne films and 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), signs on to co-star in the thriller Go With Me (2015), released in the U.S. as Blackway. She’ll be working alongside Anthony Hopkins and Ray Liotta, so it seems like a good gig. The film didn’t get very good reviews, but there was a silver lining. A camera assistant on the film production was Preston J. Cook. The pair met on-set and hit it off. They began dating and about two years later, got married. If you thought marrying a Hollywood actress would change Cook, no deal. He’s still working as a camera assistant, most recently in War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) and, you might have guessed, on his wife’s latest Bourne flick, Jason Bourne (2016).
2. Paul Rudd And Julie Yaeger
Paul Rudd was every young girl’s crush in the 1990s when he was known for his role as Josh in Clueless (1995). It was his breakout role. Who wouldn’t be crazy over him? He’s good-looking, funny, and has a great personality. So once he got famous after Clueless, he moved to New York and his friends told him to get a publicist. Still new in town, he went straight to a publicist’s office and met Julie Yaeger, his future wife. She helped him get settled and within a few days, not really knowing anyone in town, Rudd asked her out to lunch. She said yes, and after five years, in 2003, they got married! Now, I know you’re saying that she’s not really a crew member, but technically she is. Unit publicists get a screen credit for their work.
1. Jeff Bridges And Susan Geston
By 1975, Jeff Bridges was already an Academy Award-nominated actor with about 20 years of experience under his belt. That year, he was in Montana, filming the Western comedy Rancho Deluxe (1975). While filming a scene at a local ranch, he took notice of a waitress working nearby. Though she was injured from a recent car accident, Bridges was immediately entranced, “She had two black eyes and a broken nose, and I just couldn’t take my eyes off her.” He eventually got up the nerve to ask her out, she refused, opting instead to catch him out around town. A few nights later, they found themselves at the same bar. They danced and love took its course. They pair were married two years later. Two years later, the makeup artist from the film furnished Bridges with a photo he took of the young actor when he first asked out Susan Geston. Bridges says he still carries that photo in his wallet to this day.
