She knew she didn’t have much time and wanted to wear her uniform one last time.
Every person has a dream in life. Some children want to be doctors when they grow up, while there are those who dream of being the president of their country someday. Filipina OFW Joy Fernandis always wanted to be a flight attendant ever since she was young. And through hard work, she was able to reach her dream after joining Saudi Arabia’s official airlines Saudia’s crew.
Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with leukemia at a very young age, preventing her from fully enjoying her life as a stewardess. Knowing she could die anytime soon, she asked her family for a very simple yet meaningful favor: she wanted to be buried in her Saudi Flight uniform.
Joy was known to be a happy and loveable woman by people close to her. She was known by her colleagues to be a devoted employee and was always vocal about how she loved her job. Her employers were saddened by the news as well. Joy died back in 2015, but her story continues to live on.
“Goodbye, Joy,” Saudia’s assistant general manager for public relations Abdul Rahman Al Fahd said on his Twitter page, according to ‘Ajel’ newspaper.
“Joy died of leukemia. Before her death, she asked her family to bury her in the Saudia uniform because she loved her job. This is very impressive loyalty.”
