Taylor Swift’s latest music video dropped Friday morning, and it’s a sci-fi tour de force featuring a virtually nude cyborg Swift.
The song—titled “Ready For It?”— is directed by Joseph Khan who clearly drew inspiration from some of the great science fiction films of all time, like Blade Runner, Ghost In The Shell, and Tron. Swift has been teasing snippets of the video for the past week, and now that it’s finally out it’s shot to number one on YouTube’s trending videos, with over 14 million views and counting.
The video starts with a direct homage to Ghost In The Shell, with Swift wearing an oversized hood in a dark alley filled with Chinese signs and characters. Sinister robots line the alley and reach out to Taylor as she walks past, but she continues to croon as she confidently strolls to an abandoned warehouse.
Once there, she’s greeted with another Swift trapped in a glass box. This one seems more Tron inspired, what with the glowing blue segments, but also smooth and sexy like an iPhone. Or a naked Taylor Swift. They can both be sexy.

Naked iPhone Swift seems to be a little P.O.ed at her imprisonment, as she instantly morphs into a scarier, war-like cyborg that blasts the case to no avail. She then morphs back into nude Swift riding atop a white horse, which also morphs into a scarier version of itself while the hooded Swift outside the box looks on.
Then, iPhone Swift begins to hover with an eerie blue light before eventually collapsing. In an apparent rage, she lets loose an electrical storm before finally matching hands with hooded Swift through the glass. She then screams, breaking the glass and revealing the hooded Swift as a lesser robot in Swift clothing.
Finally, the video ends with naked cyborg Swift ascending metaphorical stairs to apparently nowhere.
While the video itself is over-filled with references to science fiction films of yore, there’s also some Easter eggs for Swift fans too. At the beginning of the video is an 89 and 91 side by side— a reference to both Swift and boyfriend Joe Alwyn’s birthday as well as Swift’s previous album. Also, the words “u r gorgeous” appear in the alley, a reference to her first single from her upcoming album.
Reputation is scheduled for release on Nov. 10, 2017.
