One of Usher’s many female accusers may be about to drop her lawsuit after firing her attorney.
Laura Helm is one of the several women suing Usher for allegedly infecting her with genital herpes. According to the suit filed in July, she and Usher slept together at her home in Atlanta on April 16, and then again in a New Orleans hotel room 12 days later. After reports of Usher’s diagnosis with herpes simplex two were widely reported, she went to be tested and found she had contracted the virus as well.
Helm says Usher did not use a condom during their New Orleans tryst.
However, in a call obtained by TMZ Helm explains to a male friend that the two always used condoms whenever they hooked up, saying, “That’s why they make protection, for people who have STDs.” During the call, she certainly seemed unconcerned about any possible exposure to herpes, which contradicts her story in the lawsuit.

Helm’s attorney Lisa West has filed a motion to withdraw from the case last Thursday, stating that she could no longer “effectively represent” her client. But sources close to Helm say she actually fired West, which led to her submitting the motion to withdraw in the first place.

In response, Usher’s attorney filed a motion to dismiss the case entirely. Helm now has until Nov. 5, 2017, to respond to the motion, but sources close to her say she’s not sure she’s going to bother. If no response from Helm is received the case would be dismissed.
While it seems almost certain the released phonecall irrevocably damaged Helm’s case, Usher maintains that Helm herself assumed all responsibility for contracting an STD when she decided to have unprotected intercourse.
“With a one in six chance that any given partner could have genital herpes,” Usher said, “[she] assumed the risk of contracting an STD each and every time she chose to have unprotected sex with a casual, consensual partner.”
Helm may not be the only Usher accuser who’s case is falling apart. Quantasia Sharpton, another woman suing Usher for allegedly exposing her to the herpes virus, is reportedly seeking out other Usher partners in order to shore up her own case against the famous singer. The move is likely a result of her lie regarding the existence of a sex tape, something that has ruined her credibility.
