A famous beauty blogger and her husband have been ordered to pay their wedding photographer $1.08 million (about £800,000) in damages for discrediting her through a very public campaign. Neely and Andrew Moldovan decided to defame Andrea Polito after she asked them to pay an extra $125 (about £95) to receive their wedding album, a fee their contract originally stipulated, The Independent reports.

The Moldovans hired Polticio in October 2014 to capture their engagement, rehearsal dinner and wedding. After the nuptials, the couple was asked to put in an order in for their album, which carried a $125 fee.

This cost was stipulated in the original contract, however, the couple refused to pay it. After sending a number of emails and hearing nothing back, Polticio offered to wave the fee, before finding out that the couple had told local news stations that their wedding photos were being “held hostage”.

As well as appearing on television, they took to social media to negatively review and publicly shame the “scamming” photographer. Neely Moldovan was, at the time, a fairly prominent beauty and lifestyle blogger with over 30,000 Instagram followers and had written for titles including The Huffington Post.

Despite Politcio telling her account of what happened on a blog, the couple still managed to completely destroy her reputation. She didn’t photograph another wedding for two years and was forced to close her studio.

Politico went on to sue the couple and this week, a Dallas judge ordered that they pay the $1.08 million “for acting out of malice to disparage her and her business”.

“I feel my reputation was restored to myself,” she told the Dallas Morning News. “What’s been hard the past couple of years has been feeling so ashamed of this story.”

It’s safe to say that it is Moldovan’s reputation that is now the one at risk.
