Here’s how to get your Amazon Echo into the Halloween spirit

Halloween is less than a week away. If you’ve been getting your home in the spirit, you may be pleased to know your Amazon Echo devices are, too.

While developers gave Alexa a handful of fun Halloween-related skills last year, this Halloween, Alexa also has responses to a handful of Easter egg-style questions.

One fun one: You can ask,“Alexa, what should I be for Halloween?” and she’s got a handful of creative responses. She suggested that I should dress up as a swamp monster, for example. She also recommended a tree sloth, when I asked the query a second time. Alexa has some other responses to this question, too. If you’re on the hunt for an Alexa-suggested costume, I won’t spoil the surprise for you.

You can also ask Alexa “What’s your favorite scary movie?” (Her pick is The Ring, but her reasoning is quite funny.)  And if you ask, “Alexa, what are you being for Halloween?” Alexa will say “Arrr, I be going as an internet pirate, in search of torrent booty. Avast ye, and hand over your Bitcoin!”

You can also say, “Alexa, let’s get spooky,” or ask Alexa to sing a spooky song. On Halloween, you can also try asking for a custom “Good morning” greeting. Alternatively, you can task Alexa with Halloween jokes, hacks, or a scary limerick.

Starting Oct. 25, Echo owners can also enjoy new Halloween-related Amazon Alexa features like Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. Theater for some interactive storytelling. There are a variety of other Halloween-themed skills you can download, too, including options that debuted in 2016, such as Ghost Detector and Horror Movie Taglines. Whether you’re looking for random facts or want to incorporate your Echo device into a haunted house, you’ll find something worth checking out.
