BTW

Solange is not a fan of her Evening Standard cover.

The U.K. paper’s weekly magazine features the singer on Friday’s cover, but Solange noticed one glaring omission: a braided crown that loomed behind her. She posted the original photo on Instagram with the caption “dtmh,” a reference to her song “Don’t Touch My Hair, in which she literally says, “Don’t touch my crown.”

The actual profile includes the edited crown, which is an allusion to the Orion constellation, and references the importance of braiding to Solange. She calls it an “act of beauty, an act of convenience, and an act of tradition.” It’s not clear why her hair was edited for the cover, but photographer Daria Kobayashi Ritch said she was “saddened that they chose to alter the image by removing such a powerful aspect of it.”

The author of the piece also had issues with it. Angelica Bastien tweeted on Thursday that she was “publicly disowning” the article, and asking for her byline to be removed.
