The fake eggs, the association claimed, had a rougher surface and were larger in size than real eggs.
When it comes to fake food, China never fails to surprise us with their numerous food scandals. The latest scandal would be that of ‘fake eggs’ that are already used in many restaurants in some parts of the world who get their eggs from China.
A mass production of artificial eggs, allegedly made of plastic, shocked the world and has thrown some corporations under investigation. The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) issued a statement shortly after on Apr 23 after conducting investigations.
They wrote: “There are no imports of eggs from China, as China is not an approved source.
“Both imported and locally produced eggs are also regularly sampled for food safety and compliance with AVA’s standards and requirements.”
With talk that fake eggs are being sold from China, consumers should look out for certain characteristics to make sure that the eggs they buy are genuine.
The Health Ministry mentioned in a statement that fake egg shells were made of chemicals such as calcium carbonate while the egg yolk and white were made of sodium alginate, gelatine, alum, benzoic acid, calcium chloride, water and other chemical components.
