Only the most passionate TV fans know their favorite characters by both their on- and off-screen names.
Services such as IMBD allow avid television and movie fans to keep up to date with their favorite actors and their next big gigs. But what happens when the cast of a show like “Game of Thrones” consists of not only humans, but a variety of animals that might just steal our hearts?
In season one of “Game of Thrones,” we were introduced to Summer and Grey Wind, two of the direwolves that were taken in by the Starks. They quickly became fan favorites, and many praised the production staff for using real animals instead of CGI. What some don’t know is that the real lives of these puppy actors are almost as incredible as the epic series that made them famous.
Meet Odin and Thor, who are really just your average Northern Inuit dogs.
Unlike most dogs, however, they just so happened to star in one of the world’s most popular television shows.
Their owner, William Mulhall, received a call about the show just a few weeks after taking home the then-seven-week-old puppies.
A casting team from HBO was interested in using the beautiful dogs in an upcoming TV show, he learned.
Eventually, Odin and Thor were chosen to fill the roles of the Summer and Grey Wind!
In just a few weeks’ time, the dogs’ lives were completely transformed.
They made their television debut in the very first episode of season one.

Not only did Odin and Thor make fans fall in love with them, but they were also able to charm the cast and crew.
During breaks, the dogs could be found playing with the young cast members in their trailers.
The show’s animal trainers are some of the best, having worked on several Harry Potter films as well as the Owen Wilson movie “Marley & Me.”
During their time on “Game of Thrones,” they lived with their trainers. When they returned home, they were housebroken and could complete many tasks on command.
Odin and Thor can now often be found running loose on the Northern Irish coastline and taking in the sights of national parks.
They’re also part of the Direwolf Tours company, which is run by Mulhall and his family.

The tours take fans to many of the show’s filming locations and gives them the opportunity to pet and take pictures with the famous pups.
