How often do you shower?
Do you often feel dirty and grimy after spending a whole day outside? It is part of every human’s daily routine to take a shower once a day—while others even shower more than once a day! People feel the need to clean their bodies after being exposed to tons of bacteria, dust, and dirt whenever they go out. But according to health experts, there is no need to shower every day. As a matter of fact, you only need to shower twice a week!
According to Dr Elaine Larson, an infectious disease expert at Columbia University School of Nursing, you only need to shower once or twice a week.
She told Time: ‘People think they’re showering for hygiene or to be cleaner, but bacteriologically, that’s not the case.’
She added: ‘Bathing will remove odour if you’re stinky or have been to the gym. But in terms of protecting you from illness, washing your hands regularly is probably adequate.’
As a matter of fact, showering too frequently can lead to more health problems such as dry and cracked skin, allowing germs to get in. Constant showers could also strip away healthy oils and good bacteria.
